Owen is a qualified Chartered Accountant (FCA), with many years of experience advising clients in the areas of audit, accounting, solicitor’s accounts, personal and corporate taxation and business advisory services. He is experienced in dealing with clients across a broad range of sectors, including retail, hospitality, construction, healthcare, financial services, personal service companies and the charity/not for profit sector.
Owen joined the practice from Deloitte in Cork, where he was responsible for audits of large indigenous and multi-national clients. Owen became a partner in Hickey & Associates in 2012 and managed the practice before acquiring and relocating the business to White Street in Cork City, where he continues to grow the client base and expand the services provided.
Owen is vastly experienced in dealing with small and medium sized businesses including solicitors, sole traders, partnerships and audit exempt companies and company audits including not-for-profit organisations and financial service companies.
Owen is also well respected in tax and business advisory services including incorporation of businesses, Revenue audit, retirement and succession planning and providing advice on business start-ups.
Owen holds a BSc in Finance and a MBS in Corporate Finance and Accounting from University College Cork. He served as a committee member of the Chartered Accountants Cork Society for 10 years, including 2 years as Chairperson.
Kate joined the firm in 2017 having worked for many years in practice in the UK before moving to Ireland. Kate carries out a number of roles in the firm, notably she looks after administrative aspects of the firm, acts as the office receptionist and uses her book-keeping qualification to ensure client bank reconciliations and VAT returns are prepared for owner managed businesses, particularly sole traders and audit exempt companies. Kate is also experienced in drafting accounts for SME businesses.
Kate has a strong background in customer service, is organised and efficient and has a strong work ethic making her a valuable member of the team.
Shelley graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1983 with a Bachelor of Accountancy Degree, B. Acc. and in 1983 she was admitted to the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants having completed her training and professional exams.
Shelley was admitted to Chartered Accountants Ireland as an Associate in 1998 having completed her professional exams. She became a Fellow of Chartered Accountants Ireland (FCA) in 2008. Shelley joined Hickey & Associates in 2000 and provides Auditing, Accounting, Taxation and Business Advisory Services.
Shelley has a vast experience in dealing with clients across a wide range of sectors and currently manages an expanding portfolio of clients including solicitors, not-for-profit organisations, financial service companies, sole traders and both audit and audit exempt companies.
Shelley is also highly experienced in tax advisory services and specialises in Income tax (including RSU’s, Share Options, ESPPs), VAT, Capital Gains Tax, and Capital Acquisitions Tax. Shelley has a wealth of experience in all aspects of Revenue audits and enquiries.
Amanda graduated from Cork Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Business in Honours Accounting and on completion of her professional accountancy exams qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA).
Amanda joined the firm in 2019 with over 3 years’ experience working in practice and has a wealth of knowledge in dealing with clients across a many industry sectors. Amanda specialises in looking after sole trader accounts and audit exempt companies.
Amanda is competent in meeting all business tax compliance and advisory needs of clients. Amanda uses her knowledge and experience to provide comprehensive tax advice to clients in relation to personal and corporate taxation. Amanda is capable of working with clients to develop effective solutions to tax planning and tax compliance by offering valuable and efficient support to all clients.
Amanda is responsible for all aspects of payroll for our client base including updating the payroll and ensuring taxes are paid and up to date. Amanda advises on matters such as social welfare queries, benefit in kind, termination payments, tax free payments and holiday pay entitlements. Amanda has great knowledge of the payroll system and is responsible for ensuring the payroll function of our client base is looked after efficiently.
